Description:

Pacbrake’s flagship product, the PRXB (pressure regulated exhaust brake), is the unquestioned leader in the supplemental brake industry. The patented PRXB design delivers the strongest braking horsepower, greatest speed reductions and shortest stopping distances possible without the use of service brakes. It maintains optimum retarding performance by maximizing the exhaust backpressure throughout the entire RPM range. Unlike a typical exhaust brake, which requires high RPMs to work properly, the PRXB delivers constant exhaust pressure (braking) as early as 1200 RPM through to the maximum allowable RPM. 

Controlled by a master ON/OFF switch, Pacbrake’s exhaust brakes provide whisper quiet supplemental braking that allows service brakes to be used much less, ultimately saving you money. They have the ability to be left on all the time, making it ideal for in-city driving or for steep, downhill grades. This product pays for itself as less wear on the brake pads means fewer brake jobs.

WHAT’S SO SPECIAL ABOUT THE PRXB?
In order to have consistent and effective braking over the entire RPM range, it is important (and necessary) to maintain constant backpressure. To achieve this, Pacbrake’s patented design has incorporated an additional waste gate on the butterfly valve to regulate the amount of exhaust flow that is being passed through. The flow is controlled by a spring-loaded arm, whose pressure rating and location are key factors in the functionality of the PRXB. Located outside of the housing and away from the heat, the spring is able to maintain its strength and durability for years of proper and precise braking performance.




CREATING & MAINTAINING BACKPRESSURE
Backpressure is created by exhaust flow entering the housing, hitting the closed butterfly valve and being forced back out in the direction it came. It is maintained by the pressure-controlled spring that is located on the outside of the exhaust brake housing.

PREMIUM BRAKING PERFORMANCE
As the engine’s RPM increase, the spring compresses and the arm moves away from the butterfly valve, therefore releasing more exhaust flow through the orifice. As the RPMs decrease, the spring releases and the arm applies pressure back onto the plate, covering the hole, and ultimately releasing a smaller amount of exhaust flow.

There is less than a 10% change in backpressure over the entire RPM range on the PRXB

You would need the brake part # C40106B, mounting group part # C11546 and control group part # C20123. PacBrake recommends using the factory Freightliner exhaust brake switch part # A06-37217-056 as well.  ( Support )
I have a 2007 bluebird vision school bus with a CAT C7 wex series (built in 2006). What parts would I need to install the exhaust brake? Also, does it require any welding or can it all be done with clamps?

We do not have a vehicle specific listing for this but it can be done, we just need additional information. What would be really helpful, are some pictures of the turbo and the exhaust coming off of it. This will determine if the brake can be mounted to the backside of the turbo or if we would need to do an inline brake further back in the exhaust system. We also will need to know if you have on-board air to operate the brake. Last bit of info, we would want to verify you have a 4th generation Allison, if you could get the Allison serial # off the data plate on the side of the transmission we will be able to determine. If it's a 3126 then you would want part # C40105, if it's a 3126B then you would want C40106B. Either brake will take mounting group part # C11558 and control group part # C10319.

We show an option on that truck to have either a 90 degree pipe off the turbo or an "S" pipe. If it has the 90 degree pipe then you would need turbo mount brake part # C40106B, mounting group part # C11558 and control group part # C10319. If it has the "S" pipe it would be an inline brake part # C40113, mounting group part # C11400 and control group part # C10319. ( Support )

The part number for a 2007 Sterling L-Series, Cat C7 Engine with Onboard Air, you would need C40106B for the PRXB valve and C10319 for the harness and control group. For mounting, you would need C10310 Front Clamp, C11350 Rear Clamp and depending on your exhaust size, C11347 for a 3.5” adapter or a C11342 for a 4” adapter.

I want to install this on an 04 F650 that has hydraulic brakes and currently no exhaust brake. Is it true that this setup needs an air compressor to function? ( Sam Smith, 12/01/2022 )
Hello Sam, the Pacbrake exhaust brakes do require a compressor and also a " control group" , which vary depending on vehicle. Some engine/transmission combo's are not compatible with exhaust brake application.  If you can provide the chassis VIN , we can contact Pacbrake for the part #'s required if applicable .  An engine serial # may be helpful as well .  ( Support )
I have a 2001 F750 with a 3126 cat engine
It currently does not come equipped with a engine brake and does not have air brakes or compressor. Could you please provide a list of all the parts I’d need to convert my truck to air brakes?

The C40106B is just the brake itself. If you do not currently have a brake that you are replacing, you will need a mounting group and control group. Assuming you have on-board air, the part #'s that you will need in addition to the C40106B are C11558 and C10319.

I have a 2005 Chevy C8500 with a Cat C7 with Eaton 8LL trans. current exhaust brake is off down pipe of turbo and an original air line powered actuated unit. the ball and socket design to hold rod on has failed, will this unit work in place and how would this be actuated? I have a 2006 GMC C7500 with and C-7 cat and Allison 3000 transmission. My exhaust brake is an Jacobs and is hanging terrible. The brake is a inline style not on the turbo and the truck has on board air. will this product work?

Dan,

Because your current exhaust brake is the inline style you will want to stick with that, so the part # you will need is C40113

You will also need a mounting group, so measure your exhaust pipe diameter. Most likely it will be 4" which would be part # C11400
