We commonly see 2001-2005 Workhorse W20-W22's blowing the PCM/TCM fuse. This is caused by a failed component in the TCM. To verify the TCM has failed, just unplug the TCM and see if the fuse still blows when the ignition is turned on. If it continues to blow then you most likely have a wiring issue.

We offer a REPAIR SERVICE for TCM’s that are experiencing the above issue. The cost is $200 and you must send us your TCM for the repair. If you do not have time to wait for the repair service, you may purchase the TCM and if it meets the above criteria, we will “Buy Back” your TCM for $200.

I have a 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500 with 8.1 and allison trans. The 20amp PCM B fuse is blowing as soon as fuse is installed. Traced issue down to the TCM shorted and what is supposed to be a positive power wire from fuse box is grounded coming out the TCM. Unplugged the connector to TCM and fuse does not blow. I see you offer TCM repair service for $200. Is this a repairable TCM if i sent it to you?

thank you
Jason

Based on the description of your issue, this does sound like a TCM we can repair. ( Support )
I have a W22 Chassis with 8.1 L engine and Allison Transmission. TCM-ECU 12V base TCM PN 29537441 customer P/N W0003647 blows 20A PCM/TCM fuse when plugged in disconnecct and no problem.
Question is do you repair this unit under your repair program?
Thanks
( Kenneth, 01/14/2024 )
Yes, we do. ( Support )
Returns available?? ( Bill , 09/15/2023 )
This part is not eligible for return. ( Support )
I have a 2004 2500 hd with allison, Can you reprogram the tcm to unlock the 6th gear like is being done with other companies with the duramax engines? The valve body gets replaced with new style and the tcm gets reprogrammed, I am looking to get my tcm reprogrammed as the rest of the work has been done. ( Daryl Reiter, 12/04/2022 )
Unfortunately, we are not able to reprogram for this. From what I understand, the companies doing this are physically changing components on the circuit board of the TCM in order to enable this function. ( Support )
I have a international model 4300 year 2003. The TCM it have installed is the same model 29537441. Will this TCM work on my truck. ( Felix Fuentes, 08/29/2022 )
Unfortunately, we do not have the calibration files for the International trucks. ( Support )
My Allison transmission computer is in default mode...... do you have one available?? This is a Fleetwood Bounder 2002 8.1 workhorse ( Laurens Wright, 12/10/2021 )
Yes, we do have these in stock and can ship ASAP. The issue you are describing would not be eligible for a core refund. ( Support )
I have a 2001 Silverado 2500HD with 8.1L and Allison. I recently had a P0700 code with several other codes after moving the TCM without unplugging it. Additionally, the trans temp gauge and PRND321 indicator (the line under the gear) have disappeared. I disconnected the harness and found that pin C1_16 has been pulled back into the connector. I re-seated the pin, plugged the connector back in and erased the codes. No codes came back but the trans temp gauge and PRND321 indicator are still not functioning. The NSBU appears to be functioning since the reverse lights work and all the power and ground pins on harness connector C2 are working.

Can I send the TCM to be tested for any fatal internal faults that warrant repairing or replacing the TCM?
Instead of replacing my TCM, can it be repaired instead? What is the cost for such a service?
If the TCM needs to be replaced, does my unit qualify as "rebuildable condition"?
( Jonathon, 08/03/2020 )
Jonathan,
Our services pertain to only one specific failure with that TCM so it would not be something we repair. If you purchased our TCM, yours would not be eligible for the core refund.

Only has reverse and one forward gear i belive to be 3rd gear transmission light is on has a shift selinoid B electrical code(p0778) and a system voltage code (p0562) and (p0561) the internal harness in transmission was replaced as well as shift selinoid B and problem did not change we then ran a continuity test on the harness from tcm down to transmission and found no issues all power and grounds coming into the tcm seem correct could this be a failed tcm? is there any way to test my old one? 2003 winnebago brave 8.1 gas with allison auto. 54k miles and the fluid and internals of the transmission look perfect no metal or clutch material what so ever so im stumped ( joey yearta, 07/17/2020 )
If you can find another 01-04 Workhorse with the Allison transmission, you could plug that TCM in to see if the issues go away or stay. That would tell you if the TCM is bad, which it sounds is pretty likely. ( Support )
The TCM is a model 29537441 with date of 08-12-2002. I am the 4th owner, so I am not sure this is the OEM unit. It appears to be the same you have pictured. Do you have a TCM that works for me? Southwind 2003 B36 on a Workhorse W22 chassis, 8.1L vortec engine.

The 29537441 would be the correct TCM for your application. ( Support )
Hello
I have a 2005 P42 Workhorse step van that is blowing the TCM BATT fuse whenever the TCM is plugged in and the battery is connected. It has a Cummins ISB 170 3.9L diesel motor and an Allison 1000 transmission. The TCM number is W0005263. Will this computer work for my application or do you have one that will?
Thanks
( Charles Atwell, 06/05/2019 )
We do not have the software to use for your engine combination. I would recommend going to an Allison Dealer for this particular vehicle. They would need the information off the tag on the TCM to get you a replacement. ( Support )
transmission will shift in forward and reverse . Drive goes 40 mph. the gear inditcator in dash does not move stays in drive no matter what gear selector is in ( ron duvall, 03/22/2019 )

It could be an issue with the TCM but it almost sounds like it could be a problem with the mode selector on the side of the transmission. I would start there before changing out the TCM.

Is this transmission controller legal for CARB (California) regulations?? And is the engine controller legal for California also?? Do you charge for installation of either is I come to your shop?? Thanks, Alan Utzig ( Alan Utzig, 03/07/2019 )
We do not have CARB certifications for these products. If the vehicle is brought to us, we do not charge labor as we can change the programming via the OBD2 port. ( Support )
what kind of vehicle this part goes on

( Santos, 08/23/2018 )
This controller is used on a wide range of vehicles but we only can program them for use in the Workhorse Chassis. From your VIN it looks like you have a Freightliner chassis so you will need to contact a Freightliner dealer for help with this. ( Support )
Hello, I’m thinking of purchasing a 2007 workhorse with 26k Miles but it seems to be having a problem shifting into gear. The procedure to get it to drive is.. Start engine Put into drive Put back into park Shut off engine Start engine Put into drive Then it will go into gear. Reasearch ive done comes back to a TCM problem. How should I remedy? ( Michael Hubbard, 01/28/2018 )

2000 gmc school bus start up fine shift ok till drive 2 - 5 miles speedometer stop working, check trans light on goes to limit or 3rd gear. shut off works for a few seconds come back on. It will come on even if you start bus and don't but in gear after 3-5 minutes or less. Replace speed sensor, took out wire harness from tcm to trans found no bad spots, load test wire with head light all good. I think must be in tcm? ( Dennis Timm, 12/01/2017 )

According to Allison, my TCM part number is 29542725, not 29537441. My engine will not turn over and the fuse for the TCM blows when plugged in and ignition on. Bad TCM? What if I order and the the problem still exists. Can the item be returned? Will your work even though a different part number? ( mike rogers, 10/18/2016 )

Mike,

29537441 is compatible with 29542725 so it would work for you. I would recommend unplugging the TCM and then turning the ignition on to see if the fuse still blows. If it does not blow, then you have a bad TCM.

Maybe I'm all wrong here but I would want my tranny to shift at a higher RPM. It seems my RV doesnt downshift on its own soon enough when climbing and shifts to OD too soon when on level ground. Could it be as simple as you reprogramming a TCM, sending it too me and me swapping out? Thanks ( Scott Jordan, 06/24/2016 )

Scott,

It sounds like you have the opposite problem that everyone else does. I don't think our programming is going to fix your situation. One thing that can throw the shifting all out of loop would be if the speedometer is off, you might check with a GPS to see if it is.

Is this a reconditioned unit? Is it a take out? What can you tell me about warranty? is there any. This unit I have trouble with is from 2003 Winnebago with Workhorse chassis Model 29537441 SNBKDCYFM323476152

( keith Hammersley, 04/26/2016 )

These are refurbished units that we test and make sure are completely functional. We have a 1 year warranty on these units.
