Hello, I just recently purchased and received this camshaft sensor and crankshaft sensor. I have installed both on my 2001 Workhorse 8.1. Vehicle starts up but I am getting a P0342 error code, which seems to be related to the camshaft sensor. Is there something I need to do to correct this. I have disconnected the battery and reconnected it. I've tried clearing the code, but it will come back when I restart the engine. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The camshaft sensor and gears on the early (2001-2003) GM 8.1L were problematic and can cause this sort of issue, even with a replacement sensor. The first thing I would do if you haven't already, is have a crankshaft relearn done with a scan tool. This will "re-sync" the two sensors with each other and could resolve the issue. You should also closely inspect the pigtail connector that goes into the sensor, the terminals inside them sometimes get pushed back and won't make a good connection. Another option would be to upgrade your camshaft sensor to the later (2004+) GM 8.1L design: 12575182-UPDATE - Camshaft Position Sensor Update Kit For 2001-2003 GM 8.1L
I am getting a p1123 code. Will replacing this sensor address the code? I have a 2002 Winnebago on w22. ( Brian Felkel, 07/15/2022 )

Hi Brian,

I don't see that coming up as a valid code for that chassis. Can you double check the code and let us know?

I have a 2001 Mercruiser 496 HO and the serial number for it is 0M095240. Will this sensor work for it ? They gave me this part number GM 12575182. ( Chris, 05/28/2021 )
We have no way to look this up but it should be correct as I don't think the marine 8.1L's had a different camshaft.
Is this a Factory GM Sensor or aftermarket and is this specific for 2001? I have seen 2002-2003 has a different timing gear and uses a different sensor, just want to verify before purchasing. Thank You ( carey cramer, 07/22/2019 )
This is a factory GM sensor and once our inventory is gone we will no longer be able to get them. Most 2001-2003 model year engines used 12575182 but there are some that used 12575183. Since we can only look up Workhorse VIN's I can't tell you which your engine came with.
I have a 2500 8.1 need a cam sensor I know that GM has discontinued this part. Will this sensor work on my truck product date is 11/00 so early 2001 or am I going to have to switch cam gears? ( Shawn shifflett, 02/15/2018 )
Yes this part is the same and will work for your truck. GM discontinued it but Workhorse still had stock on hand but once these are depleted I don't believe we will be able to get anymore.
